Makeup Shock

Every Friday is MAKEUP SHOCK! I bet you didn't know you the average women eats 7 pounds of makeup in her lifetime. Yeah, that means you. Kinda shocking??  What is in your in your lipstick anyway?? Oils??

Everyone has been freaking out about this "recent" discovery of leads and medals and other possibly harmful products in lipsticks. This issue has been around for longer than this past month, this past year even. Therefore it's time to talk. Beauty Bite, no no not the Beauty Bite segment with Mr. Kate on the youtube show The Platform, something much crazier. Imagine you are making lipstick, you, you have all the money in the world to make this product. What is so special about your lipstick? No medals? That is great, but how about you can eat it. Now step out of this daydream and welcome to reality again your dream came true! Bite Beauty Lipstick found exclusively at Sephora is now an amaaaaazing new lipstick (or semi new) that you can eat! Yes I said that correctly eat. No more worries, Hakuna Matata, now you have an amaze lipstick that you never have to worry about medals!  This lipstick is super safe for your mouth, however now you are wondering how safe is it for my wallet? Well I wish I could say it was lower, unfortunately $24. A very high price, therefore if you want some familiar brands let's go through the best lipsticks, without harmful ingredients of course.

High End:

3.LANCOME.
Lancome rogue in love, my personal fav has only a few ingredients none of which being potentially harmful! This is also a little pricey around $27 however still amazing color on lips!

2.BENEFIT.
Benefit full finish lipstick is only $18, some of you might say only?? Don't fret scroll down to see some drug store brands.

1.MAC.
Mac pro longwear lip creme, has a gorgeous finish only $16. MAC is known for there lipsticks, you didn't think we would leave them out did you?

Drug Store:

3.REVLON.
Revlon super lustrous collection is so creamy, the look is similar to MAC.

2.MILANI
Milani HD advanced lip color is amaaaaaazing! It reminds me of NYX a lot in look and is faboulous!

1.COVERGIRL
Covergirl lip perfection lipstick, amazing for your lips and your wallet, found at drugstores.

I hope you enjoyed this important post, if you did not already know about the harmful ingredients you know do! Also I wanted to provide some lipsticks I use and love that won't kill you. Enjoy!

Whats in my Makeup Bag?

A new series here on Makeup Abattoir. This will show what is in my makeup bag, changes daily! Thanks so much! Enjoy!

Today I am using a Hawaiian makeup bag. Made in Hawaii. Cute and functional!

First I have my concealer, covergirl+olay, not my favorite at all however today is a hot day so I am using a sticky concealer.

Next, I have my Revlon gel shadows. This is in the palette canyon. I used the blue on the lower lash line and have it in my bag just in case.

Next, I have an Ecotools petite eye brush. This is in my makeup bag to replenish any gel shadow smears, eyeliner, or even touch up.

Next, I have waterproof eyeliner, hot summer days call for this. You never know when a water balloon is around the corner. This is by far the best, in my experience, and my favorite waterproof mascara.

Then we have Maybelline FIT Matte foundation, one of my favorite drugstore foundations especially exceptional on hot summer days, waterproof and great coverage!

Finally, Revlon Custom Eyes. I use this to set gel shadows and the black for my eyeliner.

I realize today I was carrying drugstore makeup at it's finest. However, I hate to waste my precious high end makeup on a hot summer day. Days like this make me wonder if I am really going to miss summer. Kidding of course. Any who I hope you enjoyed and I will see you back here tomorrow. Byeeeeeee.

Back to School Makeup

I finally decided to make a Back To School Makeup Look. There were so many options I finally just chose this one. Enjoy!
I really just focused on the eyes for this look.

Step 1. I first used 'Haux' from MAC as a base.

Step 2. I used an angle crease brush from Eco Tools,
and mixed MAC 'Gesso' with 'Haux' to give a lighter
shadowy effect.

Step 3. I then highlighted the inner corners of my
eyes with MAC 'Gesso'

Step 4. Next, I used a crayon eyeliner from MAC in the
color 'Fasinating' as a back liner. I loved this look because
I have been seeing a lot of my favorite makeup gurus and
even actresses using a white back liner.

Step 5. Next I used MAC Graph Black roll up eyeliner
on top, also in my upper water line and my lower water line.
If you are not a fan of black eyeliner on the bottom lash line
you can instead use a white eyeliner in your lower waterline

Step 6. Finally mascara Dior Dior show by Dior is my
favorite however a drugstore alternative is Maybelline
Stiletto

I realize I used a lot of MAC in this however I have been obsessed with my MAC palette lately. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Tell me what your Back to School Essentuals are in the comments below. Don't forget to subscribe!

Unboxing Birchbox

I recently received my August Birchbox!! Without further ado the unboxing!

The box is the original yay! For a brief time they changed it and now back to the original.

First of course their theme! This is one of my favorite parts of birchbox. Each box has a theme depending on the time of the year, what is happening in the world, new tv series etc. This months theme was 'Finishing School'. My first impression was there must be finishing spray or products to perfect a look. On this page it talks of having a bold lip for confidence and such so I then figured must be lip stick. Only to my surprise...

Pretty set up so let's dive right in.

I first opened this little container to find Coola sunscreen and Dr Jart+ bb cream. I think the sunscreen is a sample size and I feel like I could get that for free anywhere. The bb cream I was not too excited about because it has SPF 45 and I am not a fan of SPF in my foundations. I actually tried this bb cream and I would not buy it. The only reason I really did not enjoy this is the coverage was too much. I am used to using sheer-medium and this is high-extreme, if you ask me. However if you like high coverage maybe you might like this product.

Next is uniqONE leave in hair mask. I very recently tried this product, and have mixed feelings.
The smell could have been better and it was a lotion consistency and felt greasy. My hair usually is very frizzy and I think it may have helped somewhat, although it felt greasy out of my hair, in my hair it actually helped! It made straightening and curly way easier. Over all I liked this product but please uniqONE, fix the smell bleh.

Next product was a bit odd, Jasmine Seven Fresh Feet Wipes. This although a bit odd I actually like. I am weird about keeping my feet clean, I can get them dirty but at home they must be clean (no judgments). Birchbox gives you 2 wipes and they are full size. On the back the maker talks about walking in the city with flip flops and wanting to clean them back at your apartment, a bit weird.

THis product was actually the first thing I saw, however waited to pick it up last. Guilty enough this color is on my fingers right now. It is inspired by four of birchbox's favorite cites and is called 'Reign in Spain'. Although I love this product, it is from the June Wanderlust box, disapointing. Still a gorgeous color, summery, but gorgeous.

And Finally there was an Ann Taylor trend look. I am going to do some looks based off of this for fun, look out for that!! I hope you enjoyed this! Comment below what you thought and if you have a birchbox or glam bag and what you got!

3 Ways to Soften a Makeup Look

Sometimes, with a harsh smokey eye, a bold lip, or a dramatic cat eye it can overpower your face and that is the last thing you want from your makeup! These are the top 3 ways to soften your makeup look!

3. Blush
Blush can sometimes overtake your face, make you look sickly, or work against your makeup look. While this picture is an exaggeration, the sad truth is it happens. To soften this look is simple. Remember that pesky foundation that stays on your brush after application don't wipe it off just yet. After applying blush pat the foundation over your existing blush. The blush is still visible, however it looks like a layer of skin between you and the blush making it a more natural look.

2. Bronzer
If you don't already use bronzer it is a great option. Sometimes foundation can be overbearing and foundation can bring the sun kissed glow back, if you apply it correctly that is. Above the brown areas are where you apply. It is basically used for the frame of your face. Think of it as adding some dark to the areas that sun naturally would hit you.

3.Eyeliner
This can soften your look immensely. When you use blackest black eyeliner, a thick line, or a dramatic cat eye you may need a softer touch. Using a black eye shadow and a defining brush to set your eyeliner for a softer feel. Another way is to Take a white eye shadow or eyeliner and place it at the bottom outer corner of your eye to brighten and again add a softer look.

I hope you enjoy this. I thought this was necessary as many people are beginning to get back into fall makeup these are ways to soften your looks and ease into fall.

3 Ways to Keep Summer Alive

With all this Back to School talk I can't help but feel a little sad. Summer actually does not even end until September 21! Let's make it last!!

3. Summer foods and drinks! Nobody ever said you had to stop drinking or eating those delicious summer beverages/foods. In the summer spirit start the day (before school or work) with a some summery fruit to start of a still summer, day!

2. Just because school starts does not mean that popsicile you have loved since you were 10 disappears! Break them out and have a treat, makes for an awesome after school snack!

1. Go to the pool!! If your local pool or your friends pool stays open longer, take advantage of it! Go to the pool relax. Alternative(since not everyone has a local pool or beach option) is a spa day. I know, how is that summer? Simply use your summer scents and most colorful bath bombs, and also of course cucumber mask.

I hope you enjoyed this, although it is sad summer is ending fall is still exciting!I hope none of you are depressed about fall, if you are these tips will help you hopefully.

How to De-Pot MAC Eye shadow

While yet again de-potting another MAC eye shadow I figured I would share with you how I do this!

Materials! This already feels like a science experiment (Oh Dear), This is all you need!
A straightener or flat iron, your MAC eye shadow, and a small knife
(don't worry you won't be performing surgery)

1. First, heat your flat iron or straightener as high as it can go!

2. Next, take your handy dandy knife and pop out the eye shadow. Stick the tip of the knife into the are you see that the two pieces disconnect and viola!

3. Next place the smaller pot you just disconnected on your pre-heated straightener. When I do this is generally take the knife and continuously pick it up, when you notice the pot is sticking to the straighter that means the plastic is melting ( don't worry it generally does not get on the straightener, if it does however one your flat iron or straightener cools simply wipe it of with a cloth!)

4. Now that the plastic is heated you can remove the eye shadow. Carefully do this, take your time if not you may cut the eye shadow!
5. BONUS The next step is not by any means required, I then take the larger pot (remember that?) I put that on the straightener, for about 5 seconds and then I am able to remove the sticker which has the eye shadow name on it! Then put this on the back of the eye shadow so when you run out you will know the name!

6. Finally, the reason why you would even de-pot in the first place, to fill in pallets. Palettes are $10 at MAC, you can get the m in duos or quads, I suggest getting them in quads, they are the same price and it makes sense to get more for less (I am going to stop before I sound like a commercial).

Now you have filled or added another color to your MAC pallet AND you have an empty pot! Soon to come creative things to do with these empty containers, and if your not that crafty you can take 6 of these to a MAC store for a free, that's right free no purchase necessary, lipstick!!

I hope you enjoyed this, I wanted to share how I do it in case you were wondering how or wanted to compare or anything in between.

Back to School Haul

Hi guys! SO today I am super excited finally posting the Back to School Haul! Back to School shopping is always so bitter sweet, in some ways it's really fun, and in others really depressing almost because that means, summer is over. Which I am trying to put in perspective this year, summer the season is not actually over until September 21 right?? So why does school have to ruin it? I pledge to keep using summer colors until I cant use them anymore (or until fall comes whichever comes first). Alright, I have so much to share with you so let's get started!

First of all, I had to get a pencil case that I would love love love, because a pencil case is like my locker away from locker, and my locker is my home away from home, very sacred. I loved this one it has a cool design and although it will take a lot of room up, I love it!

Next I wanted to add some color! I bought some erasers, little post its, to hold pages, note cards, note card holders, ruler, and of course book covers. I was not that impressed this year with book covers I usually get huge elaborate designs but, not this year. Just a few basic colors to cover my otherwise bare books.

Then of course pens and pencils, white out and some binders. I have such a large variety of writing utensils this year so proud of myself!

Next I needed a scientific calculator, and some colorful folders. Sparkly folders, plaid, floral, and yes even One Direction. No judgments please my friends decided we all need to be matching this year. Oh dear.

Probably one of my fav things I bought is the two comic booky notebooks. They say "KA-POW!" and "CRAAAAASH!" I thought they were just too cute, since I recently bought some clothes from Forever 21 that are also comic booky! My composition books are pretty classic, but none the less special. Finally, a journal for my creative writing class (so excited!).

\
Next is my lunch box. I don't actually even like this all that much, however I never do. This one is water proof and made out of whatever they make wet suits out of. I bought this during Shark Week, go figure.

Locker!!!!! I suppose my locker is sort of a home away from home, but I find it hard to say that sometimes imagining how someone else, maybe someone really gross, had it the year before me (bleh). So why not decorate it to distract me from that disturbing truth? A pink locker shelf, Some magnet decor, and of course cheetah print post it's (Anyone remember the Cheetah Girls???).

Alright guys, I hope you enjoyed this haul as bitter sweetly as I did. Other than this I also bought some paper etc. however did not want to bore anyone with those average things. I hope this did not make you eel super sad that summer is ending however although scary, change can be good, right? Right.Comment below what your favorite part of back to school is!

3 Things You Do WRONG With Makeup

When you have been doing your makeup forever, you might think you know a thing or two. Just when you thought you knew Cosmetic/Beauty School says otherwise. These are the 3 things that you have been doing WRONG while applying makeup.

3. Primer

This is a no brainer, if you do not already know about primer it is key to a flawless look, or any look for that matter. As Napoleon Perdis says "Not to Prime is Crime". Think of primer as the base coat, like on your nails. It protects your nail and strengthens it. Primer helps your face for the present, it holds your makeup in place, and strengthens it for the years to come. A key element to applying makeup. Whenever I ask my friends (outside of beauty) what they think, they say "Primer?? What's that??" or "Isn't that just paint??" So I thought I would add this to top three.

2.Eyebrows

First of a key element to eyebrows to make them shaped, it to take a mascara wand, clear mascara is best, and pull the wand on your eyebrow away from the face to give it shape. The clear mascara will hold it in place. In Beauty School, they teach you that eyebrow common sense is to just follow the shape of your brow, however your common sense is WRONG! Of course you should know that, the brow should start above the beginning of your eye, and the crease should be above the end of your iris, but how do you properly fill in a brow? Well, beauty school states that you go the opposite way of hair growth, with powder, which allows the eyebrow to lie on the powder making it more realistic. With an eyebrow pencil you should do the same except after going opposite direction, go forward to cover and imperfections.

1.Eyeliner

It is simple to say you know or thought you knew how to apply eyeliner, but do you really? According to cosmetology people will naturally apply eyeliner from the inner corner to the outer and are finished, this method is WRONG. Whether you are using gel liner, a brush, power, pencil, crayon, or roll up eyeliner this is the right way to apply it. Start in the inner corner and move your lining utensil to the middle of your eye, stop. Next go to the outer corner of your eye and move to already existing liner. This is also is relevant to lower lash liner, or water line. This method, the correct method, will prevent bumps and imperfections and is sure to impress your beauty school teacher.

A lot of this I learned in on http://www.totalbeauty.com/ it is a really cool site you can learn tons about makeup. Hope you enjoyed.

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Foundation Review

I tried this product as soon as I saw it, Revlon has always made some really good products, for a drugstore that is. What shocked me is that there was finally an affordable airbrush foundation it seemed unreal. It was unreal. I tried this product the very next day using their perfecting primer, which worked really well, and then I proceeded to try the foundation. Airbrush foundation is a completely different formula than the average liquid foundation, powders, or even chubby sticks. Airbrush foundation is a watery substance that makes the coverage picture perfect. Hence, the name photoready. What also struck me was that this foundation did not have a small medal ball inside, used for shaking the product, as most all airbrush foundations have. So many things did not seem right, and then I tried it. The smell was incredibly gross, the application was odd, it came out like moose and I do not see how you could manage to put this foundation in an airbrush if you tried. The consistency was awkward, so many wrong things. I applied with a foundation brush of course. I then looked at my hand where I had sprayed err got the foundation out of the bottle, it was sparkly. I was about to throw a fit, drug store makeup don't seem to understand anything. I do not want my makeup to smell, and definitely do NOT want my 'natural' makeup looks to have sparkles, completely ruins the effect. So definitely will not buy this product again, and now I am completely in dire need to pursue to find an amazing foundation. Fingers crossed. Tell me what you thought if you have tried this product, do you agree, disagree, comment below!
